Pratham Nagpal

Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to view my portfolio. I am first year master student major mechanical engineering from University of Wollongong. The aim of the website is to give deeper insight into my experiences and skills which can be used by potential employers or those who want to know more about what I have done. Started as a part of assignment for professional communication and engineering workplace practices, here I focused on the project I completed during the first semester and the technical outputs which I gained during the course curriculum. I have also reflected the skills that will potentially make me better employee.

ABOUT ME

I am currently first year master student of mechanical engineering at University of Wollongong. In the next semester I’ll be focusing more towards project management, engineering computing and research methods. As per my perspective choosing Mechanical engineering as a career option was an easy choice. When I was a child, I always fascinated about the machines, materials and exploring things and how make things more effective, more easy to understand, more grounded, quicker, and more practical. I am hoping to gain more experience by studying deep down into mechanical practices as well I want to learn more about the actual culture about workplace, which will put me one step further to be a successful mechanical engineer.

COURSEWORK

Technical work

Advance manufacturing practices helped me to learn various properties by physically processing of materials which includes mechanical property testing; casting, rolling, forging, sheet metal forming and micro forming. It helped me in gaining understanding about advanced and modern manufacturing process which are complex and costly but are very effective in terms of its use. With the help of problem solving, numerical ability, unique way of approaching every different solutions, foundation and technical skills which I learned now I am able to understand problem in more depth considering the safety standards norms, work, health and environmental factors.

Advance manufacturing will ideally make everything fair among little and enormous organizations, as capacity will as of now not be founded on the quantity of representatives or assembling space, however on the plan of frameworks that give the best-fit, and deal profoundly steady items for clients at a lower cost than conventional models.

Project work

Sustainability for engineer’s scientist and professional provided me basic understanding of designs and methods which needs to be considered while planning a project which helped me in understanding the needs for sustainable development and understand the social, cultural, global and environmental responsibilities for maintaining a sustainable system.

The project aim was analysis of building sustainability where I assumed the dimensions of building and the task was to analyse building water and energy performance and indoor thermal comfort by using different technical options by making amendments to either into existing building or while designing a new building. With the help of BASIX tool which give the overall report of the data and by making changes or installing new systems into existing building by considering the installation cost, repair and maintenance I was able to reach a minimum performance for all these basic criteria.

If we are able to reduce water usage, energy performance and thermal comfort it will have tremendous effect on nature as the way we are utilizing sources needs to be contained. Our aim must be to reach a net zero emission.

EMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTEER

I worked as a customer representative from July 2021 to May 2022 at Concentrix where I handled customer complaints, provided appropriate solutions and alternatives within time frame. I handled large amount of incoming calls with maintaining a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards them all the time. Build sustainable relationships and trust with customer accounts through open and interactive communication, identified and assessed customer needs to satisfaction through active listening. I was responsible for taking incoming calls as follow up on the calls until a resolution is provided. This involved making follow up calls at appropriate time as per request by, guiding them further troubleshooting steps through verbally/via email. The action contributes to increase in sales of 10% after support services as I have learnt to create a positive impression on customers by being attentive and listening carefully to any difficulties they may be having. I enjoy helping to resolve any difficulties quickly and efficiently with a positive outcome for everyone concerned. This position has allowed me to develop high-level communications through clear, assertive and empathic communication with a broad cross section of the community.

When volunteering in college events, I continually proved my ability to work with a team in a very team-oriented environment. While given the responsibility to provide hospitality to other college teams I managed a large team, and in hospitality, teamwork is crucial to providing smooth and efficient service. Different roles were divided to certain group of people to ensure we completed everything. This coordination among team meant communicating with volunteer, and regularly organising meetings where I collaborated with other event heads and management to improve the way. Regardless of experience, I treated every other person member as equals, which helped strengthened the team overall. As a result of my teamwork skills and collaborative work efforts, I got the opportunity to lead other college events because they knew that I could work effectively with everyone to get the job done.
